It was Friday, I knew that the day was going to be full of surprises. It was the last day for Samoan language week and the last day for Miss Haslem. The day was going to be very very exciting. Mr T woke up very early to set up the things for the Umu. It needed things

like sticks, banana leaves, and volcanic rocks. My first thoughts of the umu when I saw it, it looks really cool because I have never seen one in my entire life! After I saw the umu, we went to room 6’s assembly, and we sang a Samoan song. When it finished, we got to check the umu out again. I tried the coco Samoa and it was very tasty. The smoke coming out from the umu was probably from the things like volcanic rocks which were very hot and the were banana leaves on top of the food. After a while we headed back to class. When the bell rang for morning tea I ran straight to the umu. I saw a lot of smoke coming out of the Umu. It smelt like smoked fish. Then everyone started to come out to the Umu and tried the coconut. Mr T cut out the white pieces off the coconut for the students to eat.

When the bell rang for us to go back to class me, John, Jenesys, Deakin and Aden went to set up the hall for everyone to sit while they ate. We set up about 60 chairs for everyone to sit while they eat the delicious food that the parents cooked and also from the umu. When the bell rang for us to eat the food, we sang the Samoan national anthem. We also raised the Samoan flag while singing. Meanwhile we were getting ready to eat.

Father Benedict the priest visited to grab some of the Samoan food. He said a prayer. When he finished I went to the long line. The food that I ate was Chop suey, taro, elegi (Fish), Oka (Raw Fish, coconut cream and some vegetables), crab salad and a pork bun. When we finished eating, me and the parent helpers were cleaning up. At the end we said a farewell to Miss Haslem, it was emotinal. Some people were crying because she was leaving. When she left we ate up all our lollies from Miss Haslem. It was also the end of Samoan language week. We all had a great time.
